1. Molecular Structure:

2. Main Applications:

  • Mainly used as adhesives of encapsulating materials (epoxy molding plastics) for integrated circuits (LSI, VLSI, etc.), electronic components (diode, triode, etc.), and weak electric products (VTR, OP, etc.).
  • Modified by unsaturated acid, the EOCN vinyl ester resin owns both the main chain of EOCN and unsaturated double bond, so that it integrates the excellent solidifying properties and adhesiveness of EOCN, and the fast-curing and photocurable capability of unsaturated ester. These features make it a preferable material to manufacture GFRP products that require excellent resistance to heat and corrosion., and to be used as a  photo-sensitive resin in the application of printing ink .
  • Used as adhesives, coatings and laminated material for the applications that have special requirements for heat resistance, anti-corrosion and insulation.

3. Properties and technical information

In addition to the general crosslinking performance of epoxy resin, EOCN features exceptional properties compared to ordinary epoxy resins. With the same softening point of 65-75 oC, the epoxy value of EOCN reaches 0.48-0.50eq/100g, while only 0.20eq/100g for the ordinary one. This fact means that its crosslinking points are 2.5 times more than usual, and its highly-crosslinked net with three-dimensional structure would be easily forming. With the phenolic framework additionally, the solidified products have excellent properties of heat stability, mechanical strength, electric insulation, waterproofness, low moisture absorption, resistance to chemicals, and higher glass transfer temperature Tg.

Even EOCN's softening point varies with the change of polymerization degree, its epoxy value doesn't change much, and the melting viscosity (150oC ICI ) remains low because the epoxy group bonds to the phenolic-hydroxy group in molecular chain. This characteristics give the resin a good processability and processing stability, and its filler filling-ratio could exceeds 80%, which leads to much lower linear expansion, much lower shrinkage, and much lower moisture adsorption of the solidified products.

5. Usage

Solidify the EOCN in the similar way as Bisphenol A epoxy resin , using different crosslinking agent according to different applications and requirements. Its typical application is to produce epoxy compound for molding. Following is the information on EOCN compounding (for reference):

General formulation ( by weight):

EOCN 100
Crosslinking agent 30-50
Filler (highly effective & active silica powder) 80-100
Accelerator (imidazole or other) 0.1-1
Others additives (fire retardant, release agent, colorant, coupling agent, etc.) 10 - 15

Compounding

Weigh the ingredients in proportion, mix them well, then use mill or twin-screw extruder to heat and mix it into melted even mixture. After cooling, it is smashed and preformed into cake-like shape for packaging and storage.

Solidifying conditions:

180~185 oC for 30-60s and 180~190oC  for 0.5-2.0 hours

6. Package, storage and transportation

(1) 25kg net packed in a paper bag with PE bag liner.

(2) Store it in a cool, well-ventilated and dry place. Keep away from heat and fire. Transport as non-hazardous chemicals. Avoid package damage and contamination caused by foreign materials during transportation.

7. Precautions for safe handling

EOCN is non-toxic solid under room temperature. LD50 =2000mg/kg in animals test. Slight irritation occurs with the operators because EOCN contains small amount of solvents.

Ventilation is required in the working area as its dust might be generated during operation.

EOCN is flammable. The heavy fume will produce as it is burning, and it is harmful to human beings.

8. Shelf-time: 1 year since production.
